Plink

 Plink
Mouth Puppet
Plink was the "Original" Elmwood Puppet!
This is the third time I've made him.  The original can bee seen in the picture below.  The second version I was never really happy with.  So during the quarrantine this past spring I felt like it was time to bring him back.
I went and dug up the pattern I created way back in 2000 for the original and used it for some of the new version to try and keep his essence true.

A peek into the making of Plink!

And here's the original and the second version

I'm really happy with how the new one came out!

From The Elmwood Vaults: The PLINK Years!

In 2001 Elmwood Productions started... Slowly... As we reach our 20th year making this madness we've been adding videos to YouTube from "The Elmwood Vaults". And not including footage from these early days would have been a shame! Sure, it's not Elmwood's greatest works. But it is what lead us to where we are today! So by 2003 Elmwood was creating and shooting a series called “It’s Late Enough with Plink” and a short film called “Josh and Todd” . “Josh and Todd” was put on hold after a couple days of shooting, and was eventually re-started in 2008, and released in 2011. “Plink” was worked on from 2003-2006, and was never released officially. Here, for the first time is the “pilot” for “It’s Late Enough with Plink” and a trailer for the 2003 unfinished version of “Josh and Todd”. Also presented is a “demo reel” for “It’s Late Enough” . We hope you enjoy these odd slices of Elmwood history! Music by Simon Sinister Shot, edited, written, and directed by Jon Bristol and Russ Bird Copyright 2002-2020 Elmwoood Productions http://elmwoodproductions.com/ Some slight edits were made to the original content.

The Original Four

No one new today...  Here's a look back...

Late last year I was going through all the puppets we have stored at
Elmwood's studio.
Doing a big cataloging and sorting...  Needed to be done!
While doing it I was also looking for puppets to be reused and repurposed for future projects, or sold on Etsy to help fund future projects.
And then there are these guys.  These four puppets were among the original dozen or so puppets I made.  They were used in a series called "It's Late Enough With Plink!" that was for local cable access.  It never really went anywhere.
Most of the rest of the dozen have been torn up and made into other things, or just didn't survive the years...  Except the original Sojive!  He's still here too, hahaha...
I decided to give them to the puppeteers who brought them to life all those years ago.  But wanted to make sure they got preserved.  So I mounted 'em like dead animals!  Hahaha!
I have no idea if they just tossed these in closets when I gave them to them, or if somewhere that are on proud display.  I just know it felt right to send them to new homes...
Thank you Russ, Pete, and Jim - for being there in the beginning!

PLINK!!!

Plink
Mouth Puppet From "It's Late Enough With Plink!"
The New Plink! The old Plink was the first puppet I ever posted here one year ago, and here is the new one.
I made the original in 2000 and he was my first puppet, so I've learned alot since then, so it was fun to go back and make him again but with updated techniques!
So I made it one year! The experiment is complete. But I'm not done with Puppet A Day! From here on it might not be daily, but I'll still be posting the puppets I make, and the puppets other members of the Elmwood crew build. And I'll also be posting puppets from my collection of toy puppets, so I hope you keep checking back in! And thanks agin to the awesome Brie for coming up with the idea to do this!

Madonna

From 9/28 to 10/5 I'll be posting some very random old pics. I found these the other day and though, "Man these need to go up".
They're all pretty old too, from when I was really just getting started making puppets...
Each one will have an explanation with it...
Madonna
Rod Puppet from It's Late Enough With Plink!
Oh man...
This one was made for the old Plink show. Anytime we wanted to have a celebrity guest we would make a rod puppet using a picture of the celebrity as the head, then make a body. Or sometimes we'd just get a cardbord cut out of the person and use that. We also did ones of Hugh Jackman, Willie Nelson, and Ewan McGregor. If I can ever find pictures of them I'll make sure to post them up.
Funny side note... When we had Axl Rose on the show we had already made a mouth puppet of him...

The Witch

The Witch

She was made a tribute to my mom. Seriously, hahahaha...!
Every Halloween my mother would dress up like a witch, get really into it. We had the yard that was decorated to the extreme, like a cemetery and such, even made the news a few years...
She's appeared in the old Plink show, Plinksgiving, and in Steve The Vampire.
She was also part of the gallery at the 2005 Puppetfest in St. Paul MN
Today would have been my mom's 62nd birthday, so wherever you are;

Happy Birthday Mom!

Scraps

Scraps
Lives up to his name...
He's one of the earliest puppets I made. We used him on the Plink show for a while, he went through a couple of puppeteers before someone finally broke him in enough. Then, sadly, he broke. Hahahaha... But I keep him around still. I'm sure he'll pop up somewhere again!

Enoch AKA Ronnie Donetti

Enoch
Also known as Ronnie Donetti of Donetti and Capone, Attorneys At Law.
He also makes a small appearance in "Josh and Todd".
This is actually the second Enoch I built. The first one had a more oval head, and he got a bit damaged, so I made a new head and body, but did keep the arms and eyes from the original. Then I took the what was left of the original head and built the Witch puppet from that, see her here. Look fo that one to pop up here in the first part of April.

The Kid Who Thinks He Is Prince

The Kid
Who Thinks He Is Prince
From the series Holly Pop

I made this one way back in the Plink days, and he appeared on a segment called Finger Puppet Theater, playing a guitar solo and reciting Shakespeare... Don't ask... It never made sence
