With this one I also wanted to post some behind the scenes of the making of the puppet!

After we agreed on the look I got started.
Managed to get some final Antron fleece from Puppet Pelts, which was the perfect color...
And off I ran!  Puppet Boobs Warning!

I brought in Nicki LaPorte to make the costume.  She's a pro at this kind of thing!

This picture is how she looked once the work was done, and right before she was boxed up to ship!

And since the client was making the hair I didn't need too...
And here is another look at her once the client added hair and a few other touches

Jim Henson - Happy Birthday!

Today would have been Jim Henson's 85th birthday.

Anyone who knows me knows this is a holiday as far as I'm concerned. ;)

I remember vividly when this episode of "Great Performances" first aired on our local PBS channel in 1994.  I videotaped it.  And I watched it over and over again.

I still have the tape, and even converted it to a DVD a few years ago.
And I recently was given the "official" VHS release by by friend Rick.  I didn't even know it was actually released!  Nice little piece for the collection for sure.

I couldn't get enough of this show though.  Along with the other Muppet and puppet videos I had I watched it over and over.  Studying it.  Trying to learn from it.

And between this and the book "Jim Henson: The Works" that came out the year before I think I learned more about being creative, and being a good person, than I learned about puppetry.

1993 and 1994 were pretty dark times for me.  Even though I was smiling through so much of it.

Thank you Jim.
Not just for what you had done for the art I love so much, and not just for being an inspiration to generations of puppeteers and film makers.
But thank you Jim for bringing me joy and leading a path to being a good person.

Was it just me or did anyone else have a really crazy and fucking super weird summer?

Despite some other peoples best attempts, including Mother Nature and whatever God-like Higher Power you believe in -
and even on a few occasions my own best attempts:
 I am still here.

And I'm still
Jon Fucking Bristol.

Bring it.  All of it.  Hit me with your best shot for the rest of 2021.

The Doctor Is In!

Our buddy, the real life Dr. Mike turned 70 this week...

We love this man a ton.  He has been a great friend and for me an inspiration and  I'm lucky to have met him waaaay back when I worked at good ol' Borders.

Elmwood even turned him into a puppet.

"The Doctor" is Dr. Mike.  And I'm proud to play the part.
Mike as Eugene and I have had a blast playing these guys in these shorts and they will even turn up in "Bernice, Too"!
Do you have a question for The Doctor and Eugene?
At the bottom of the post is all the info on how to get your question answered!

Are you looking for some advice in love? Not sure on how to build up your confidence? Need to learn to tie your shoes? Well, The Doctor is IN! Elmwood’s own Doc is now here and in session! Are you looking for advice from someone with almost as much credibility as any other so-called doctor on TV or the internet? Cuz now’s your chance to get it! Email The Doc now: doc@elmwoodproductions.com. And if he uses your question you’ll get a cool Elmwood t-shirt! Perfect for washing your car with or cleaning spills in the kitchen. Or, you could wear it! Just remember to include a mailing address with your question! The Doc and his co-host Eugene will look over your questions and come up with amazing solutions for you, and they're doing it for free! The Doc is not a real doctor. He's a puppet. So this is just for entertainment purposes. But we're sure you figured that out. And remember: "The Doctor Can Cure What Ails Ya!" http://elmwoodproductions.com/ Show some love for Elmwood! Happy Labor Day - Support the MDA!

Support the MDA mda.org In 1994 local television station WFSB was still airing the annual MDA Labor Day Telethon. Late that summer they sent a small crew to my parents home to do a piece on my brother, Michael, who had passed away just after the 1993 telethon. This is a transfer of that piece from a VHS tape provided to my family after it aired. I don't own it, or the music. Just want to share this small piece of my family history.

Thank you.

I'm very grateful to have this video. My awesome aunt Sharon gave me a copy that she had recorded and saved when it aired in 1994, and the local CBS affiliate WFSB also gave us a master copy. I still have both.

Play Nice... Monday Song.

I schedule a lot of these posts in advance.  And it hit me...

What if something happened to me?  Like I died, or was seriously hurt.

And then posts on this site are still coming.  I kinda smile thinking about that.  It's morbid for sure.
But it's also funny.
Some people who come here might not even know I was dead or sick or whatever, and others would wonder what the Hell is happening.  Heh...

Anyway...  Play nice out there.  Too many assholes around, don't be one.
